Overview
Fleqsuvy is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat spasticity (muscle stiffness and spasms) caused by multiple sclerosis (MS). It is particularly effective in relieving flexor spasms, clonus (involuntary muscle contractions), muscular rigidity, and associated pain. Fleqsuvy is also known by its drug name, baclofen.

Fleqsuvy belongs to a class of drugs called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA-ergic) agonists. It is believed to work by activating GABA receptors in the central nervous system, which helps relax overly tight muscles and reduces the frequency and severity of muscle spasms.

How do I take it?
Prescribing information states that Fleqsuvy is taken orally as a suspension. Treatment typically begins with a low dose divided into several daily doses and is gradually increased based on the recipient’s response and tolerance. If the treatment needs to be discontinued, the dosage must be tapered down slowly to avoid serious side effects. Fleqsuvy should always be taken exactly as prescribed by a health care provider.

Side effects
Common side effects of Fleqsuvy include drowsiness, dizziness, and weakness.

Rare but serious side effects may include withdrawal symptoms (if stopped abruptly), sedation, psychotic disorders, exacerbation of epilepsy, and neonatal withdrawal symptoms if taken during pregnancy. The drug may also interact with alcohol and other central nervous system depressants, increasing sedation.
